What is a career plan?
A career plan outlines the steps you need to take to reach your preferred career option.
OITTA career plan will set out:
- what you need to do and by when
- in what order you need to do the activities; in particular what you are going to do NOW!
- specific dates by which you need to make a decision or complete an activity
- how you will check your progress against these dates
- a way of evaluating your success or ways of making alternative plans to keep you on track
- a way of keeping an eye on future opportunities
An effective career plan includes:
- a clear statement of your career goal
- a summarised personal profile; values, interests, skills, influences on you
- a list of current skills and qualifications
- a list of career objectives
- a list of additional skills or qualifications you need
- any personal development strategies planned
